I made this painting while still living in Norway. My studio was not far away from where the writer and poet Arne Garborg (1851-1924) was born and had his writing cottage “Knudaheio”. He was a literary father for the county of Jæren in Southern Norway, which most of his writing is connected too. The painting is inspired by a memorial put up close to Knudaheio, and the title of the painting is taken from a poem/cycle of songs. The poem is addressed to this characteristic landscape of grass, heather and marsh where he as a boy had shepherded his father’s cows and sheep. I usually don’t intend to portray persons or others in my painting, but made an exception in this case. I only used one colour (Prussian blue), mixed with white.
