This is a painting I made the first week after the massacre at Utøya/Norway. Sixty-nine young people from 14 years old and up were hunted down and shot dead by a right-wing political activist. Eight people in or around the government building in Oslo were killed by the same fanatic by a huge car bomb he had made. I donated the painting to AUF (Arbeidernes Ungdomstylking) the organisation of the Norwegian Labour Party, where the youth that were killed were members. The title refers to a children’s novel, The Brothers Lionheart, by the Swedish author Astrid Lindgren’. In this she in a masterly way deals with death so as to help young people to cope with this difficult theme. More about 22nd July Massacre on my Blog.
