Price : I saved this canvas for some time while waiting for a theme deserving of this size. But at the time my mind was occupied with one thing after another. In the end I decided I just had to start; I had a simple sketch in my head. I painted the background, the two figures, the upper light and the lower indigo shapes. I let the other colours run down the painting, like fireworks, and finally added the large greyish cloud. It was all there in my plan, but the result in the end looked different than I expected and initially I wasn’t satisfied! | turned it to the wall, as I sometimes do, and looked at it again about a year later, and felt very different about it. My disappointment had disappeared and my original plan was forgotten. I liked it just as it was!
